Affordable Stay Options for Patients & Families

Access to treatment often requires travel. This section lists patient-friendly accommodations, including guest houses, NGO-run stays, and hospital-tied lodging near treatment centres, to make the journey more manageable.

1. St. Jude India ChildCare Centres

  • What it offers: Free, holistic lodging for children undergoing cancer treatment and their families—includes lodging, meals, education support, recreation, counseling, and transport. 

  • Locations: 41 centers across India, including Mumbai, Kolkata, Delhi, Chennai, Hyderabad, Jaipur, Vellore, Varanasi, Guwahati, Muzaffarpur. 

  • Contact:

  • Eligibility: Children diagnosed with cancer undergoing treatment; families facing financial hardship. It’s best to use the Center Locator on their site to find the nearest center and apply.

2. Premashraya – Tata Medical Center (Kolkata)

  • What it offers: Affordable residential facility (“home away from home”) close to the hospital. Features 2–3‑bedded cubicles (₹300–₹450 per night), canteen, pharmacy, and basic lodging. Some floors (for children) managed by St. Jude are free. 

  • Contact:

  • Eligibility: Patients undergoing treatment at Tata Medical Center. A referral or treatment slip from TMC is required to secure lodging.

3. Can-Nest Home-Away-From-Home (Chennai)

  • What it offers: Short-term housing for pediatric cancer patients and their families who travel to Chennai for treatment, near ICH hospital.

4. Namma Dharmasala by Sri Matha Trust (Chennai)

  • What it offers: Affordable lodging and a supportive environment for underprivileged cancer patients and families from outside Chennai. 

  • Contact & Eligibility:

    Details are available through NGO listings on platforms like Milaap—contact directly to enquire about availability and eligibility.

5. Karunyavarsham Short-Stay Home (Kerala)

  • What it offers: Free or nominal-cost boarding and lodging for cancer patients and their attendants, primarily for those referred for palliative care. 

  • Contact & Eligibility:

    Visit their website (karunyavarsham.com) for application details and to confirm eligibility based on medical referral.

6. Accommodation for Patients & Kin (Cancer Assist)

  • What it offers: Former hotel offering free rooms for families of child cancer patients—especially helpful for those traveling for treatment.

7. Vishram Sadan Shelter Home (RIMS, Ranchi)

  • What it offers: Lodging for patient relatives at ₹100/day for the first 7 days, and ₹150/day thereafter (with valid OPD/IPD slip). 

  • Contact & Eligibility:

    Visit or inquire at Rajendra Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS), Ranchi with treatment documents to apply.

8. Swasti Bhavan Shelter (NCI, Nagpur)

  • What it offers: CSR-supported residential facility with affordable housing for caregivers of pediatric cancer patients, including a food court and amenities. Capacity ~400 residents.
